Nisen nodded, then his tone shifted, “By the way, about my partner’s issue…”
David interrupted, “I know, I’m trying my best to look for someone for you, you don’t want just anybody to be a burden, do you?”
“Of course not, okay, you go ahead with your work!”
About half an hour after Nisen left, someone knocked on David’s office door again.
“Come in!”
This time, it was Deputy Director Megan who came in. She first inquired about some matters regarding the CIA.
When she learned that David had already forced the other party to pay taxes and the information had been archived, she couldn’t help smiling and praised him.
“Oh, there’s something I need to tell you!”
Megan placed a document on the desk and said, “Isn’t your team missing an Inspector? Don’t bother looking anymore!”
David’s face showed a hint of surprise upon hearing this.
By all accounts, Megan’s position wouldn’t involve dealing with specific matters regarding Inspectors.
Unless…
She had a relative or an acquaintance she wanted to place in the role…
If that were the case, Nisen was going to be somewhat unlucky!
Pushing aside his thoughts, David picked up the document from the desk and started reading it.
[Name: Selina Kennedy.]
[Gender: Female.]
[Age: 24.]
[Graduated from Haver University with a major in Economics…]
[…]
After going through the document, David felt a bit surprised and then turned to Megan, “Deputy Director Megan, this Selina Kennedy, she wouldn’t be a member of that prominent Kennedy Family in America, would she?”
“What do you think?”
Seeing the meaningful expression on Megan’s face, David narrowed his eyes.
It seemed to be the case indeed
Otherwise, Megan wouldn’t have personally delivered this file!
But that brought David back to what he couldn’t understand.
As it was known, America had four recognized great families: the Adams Family, Roosevelt Family, Bush Family, and the Kennedy Family.
Each of these families had produced a distinguished President.
While the President from the Kennedy Family had met with a tragic end due to clashing with interest groups, their family’s influence remained immense to this day.
In American politics, it was often said that if one wanted to succeed in the political arena, their best shortcut was to seek the support of the Kennedy Family!
And Schwarzenegger did just that.
He married the daughter of Kennedy’s sister, which ultimately landed him the seat of Governor of California in 2003!
And he held that position for seven years.
So, what David was puzzled about now was,
If this Selina was from the Kennedy Family, why would she come to their Lake District to be an Inspector?
To the average person, the role of a Chief Tax Officer might seem prestigious, being able to call the shots.
But in the face of a behemoth like the Kennedy Family, it was practically negligible!
“As you guessed, her background is a bit special. Once she’s in our office, just arrange some clerical work for her, that would be good enough!”
David picked up the underlying message in Megan’s words.
Don’t let someone from such a major family stumble or have an accident in their Lake District; otherwise, it would be very troublesome!
He had originally planned to find a competent partner for Nisen, but now a huge burden had arrived instead; he wondered what Nisen’s reaction would be once he found out!
…
David spent the day familiarizing himself with the duties of the Chief Tax Officer.
The seven members of his team, following his instructions, started a frenzied investigation into Dieter’s case.
Bucky and two other teams seemed to have found some key information, even coming special to apply for public funds.
David was not stingy at all, directly allocating two thousand US dollars to their team.
With everyone performing their duties, the day came to an end.
The next day arrived.
Upon reaching the office, David immediately opened up the performance assessment board.
The new assessment period had been going for two days now.
Currently ranking first in the country was that familiar name, Brown Soros.
In just two days, this guy had amassed a performance score of 4.369 million dollars.
Compared to the last assessment period, it seemed he had improved significantly.
“Huh?”
Suddenly, a look of surprise crossed David’s face.
He had been preoccupied with Brown’s performance, but he hadn’t noticed that one person’s name was missing.
Kelly Orsey, his former partner’s name, was no longer on the list!
There was only one reason for this: Brown Soros, just like himself, had been promoted to Chief Tax Officer because of an outstanding performance during the assessment period!
That was the only way one could rank separately on this list!
But thinking about it, it seemed normal.
Brown’s team had racked up a performance score of over 18 million dollars last period, ranking them first in the country.
With such impressive performance, even if the Manhattan, New York Branch had no Chief Tax Officer vacancies, the leadership there would have likely found a way to elevate him.
Otherwise, after three assessment periods and repeatedly coming first in the country, it wouldn’t make sense if a top-performing Inspector didn’t ascend to the role of Chief Tax Officer!
During his further observations, David also noticed.
Apart from him and Brown Soros, there were quite a few Inspectors who had been promoted to Chief Tax Officers during this assessment period.
Bellamy Hardy from the Los Angeles Long Beach Branch, consistently ranking second in the country, had also been promoted to Chief Tax Officer.
Besides, across the country, more than ten other Inspectors had also been promoted to the role of Chief Tax Officer!
